Superpowers for home

17 July 2010 I hope, that everyone knows the intro scene from the Æon Flux movie (if someone missed it, I highly recommend to watch that, it's an entertaining dystopian action movie): the heroine catches a fly with her eyelashes. The composition of the picture is masterful. The shape of the eyelashes and lids resemble the Venus Flytrap, carnivorous plant's leaves that eats insects. On the other side it gives us the glimpse that Æon is just as cool as Superman or Mighty Mouse. Furthermore it sets us up for the upcoming goodness: we're going to see impossible things told in great visual style. But is it impossible to catch a fly with our eyes? I, hereby, give you the answer: it is not. All you need is a laptop (any kind of it, for example the one I'm writing these lines for you), a muggy summer evening (the kind we are having right now out there), and an even muggier bedroom. FCBD & Invasion Dublin

Saturday, 05 May, 2012 FCBD As it happened, this year two (sub)cultural events have been held on the same day. One, as it's been the first Sunday of May, was the Free Comic Book Day. I don't want to explain the background of this event, as I did it last year. Lets get to the details instead. Forbidden Planet Dublin took part in this global movement again. Although, they have changed the protocol a little bit: this year visitors must have bought something to get a free comic book pack at the till. It wasn't really a change for me. I bought some TPBs last year as well as this year, because it felt fair to give something (a purchase) in exchange of the free stuff. Just like last year, there was three different size of packs, golden, silver, bronze; even fever books inside them. Last year the locusts got the big packs, because the fair visitors picked up some books to buy first, while the looters headed directly to the checkout for the packs. This year the fair visitors ...

Monday, 13 February, 2012 Of course we find it sexy when a woman, who stayed for a night, not quite planned and prepared, puts on some clothes from the man's wardrobe. A shirt, or a tee, maybe a boxer. In an event like this, the ones who care more about the hygiene feel grateful if they find an unopened set of underclothes. The following little story highlights that this is not the only reason we might want to keep some unopened boxes of boxers at home. Supposedly we care about others... The situation was so cliche, that I wouldn't believe if it was told by someone else. A comedy in the theaters, a farce would start with a scene like this. Alright, alright... I'm not sure how long this blog will last. But it's worth a try. Yes, a try. Despite of the what we hear in The Empire Strikes Back Do... or do not. There is no try. Now here's the thing. Many people quote this as Yoda's famous words. But when it comes to "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players" they say it's by Shakespeare. And not by Jacques, a character in a play. For my logical and sorting mind this is a dissonance that I can't resolve, and it's chasing me all in my life. Anyhow!
